The Expected Time for a Kitchen Remodel

Before you begin a kitchen remodel, it’s best to plan out how long it will take before the job is completed. Many individuals like to plan their remodeling jobs around a certain occasion or a key date, so it is best to be realistic on how long the project will ultimately take. Depending on the type of kitchen remodel, the average kitchen takes about four to six weeks to complete the remodel. This timeframe usually does include the time to plan and design. The following are a list of steps that usually determine the amount of time a kitchen remodel takes.
Removing the existing kitchen & evaluating all things exposed
This process can take a few days. After the first day of removing the appliance, cabinetry, countertops, flooring, etc., it is vital to examine the space and assess the status of the existing walls, ceiling, and floor. Doing this allows the contractor to determine if there are any corrections that need to be made prior to proceeding.
Marking the location of electrical outlets, light fixtures, and appliances
This step will take about a day. During kitchen a remodel, it is typical that new light fixtures will be required if not an entirely new lighting system altogether. All this time, all the electrical outlets, lighting, and appliance power feeds will be determined.
Setting up and installing mechanical
On average, mechanical installation takes about five days. Usually, this is when new plumbing, HVAC and electrical will be installed.
Insulation, drywall & priming, flooring
After the mechanical phase, it is usually okay to begin insulating your kitchen, finishing the drywall and priming. If you are replacing your floors, it would be completed during this time too.
Cabinet & countertop installation
As the job gets close to being completed, it is time to install new countertops & cabinets. The fabrication process with the countertops can take about ten days, but this is so the fabricator can measure everything perfectly.
Interior finish, staging & painting
This is when plumbing fixtures & decorative backsplash are installed, trim and hardwood floors are finished.
Installing electrical fixtures, appliances and final cleanup
This time is used for small touch-ups and any fine-tuning so that the client is ready to enjoy!
